Job Opportunity Teaching Strings

The Thomas Jefferson Strings Club is currently searching for candidates to instruct the Thomas Jefferson Elementary Strings Club in Falls Church City. For the past two years, the club has been open to 4th and 5th graders and meets after school (at 4 pm and/or 5 pm) on one or two days per week.

Praxis Core Math Test Workshop

The College of Education and Human Development is offering a test preparation workshop for the Praxis Core Math Test. This test is a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) teacher preparation program entry requirement. This is a good opportunity for undergraduate (BME) and licensure (MELC) students who do not have SAT or ACT equivalency scores to brush up on their math skills. The dates, times, and cost of the workshop are as follows:
  • When: Saturday, October 8, 15, 22, and 29 
  • Time: 9:00 am-12:00 pm 
  • Where: George Mason University Fairfax Campus 
  • Instructor: Dr. Lynn Gardner 
  • Required Textbook: Core Math Made Easy at www.mgmtutoring.com.
  • Registration Cost: $270 ($245 for Mason Students)

2016 Music Education Convocation

The Fall 2016 Music Education Convocation will be held on Friday, September 2nd, from 12:00 - 1:20 pm in deLaski hall. In addition to presentation from student music education organizations such as NAfME Collegiate and ACDA, there will be three breakout sections to help orient students to the music education degree as follows:
  • Welcome Aboard! Navigating First Year priorities for the Music Education Major. This session is for first-year undergraduate students who are new to Mason. The session speaker will be Mrs. Lynn Wildman, Senior Academic Advisor.
  • MTEC is Not a Four-Letter Word. This session is for all returning undergraduate students who have not yet taken the MTEC Interview and Skill Proficiency Exam. The session speaker will be Professor Wayne Taylor.
  • Field Experience and Internship Placements. This session is for all undergraduate BME and graduate MELC students who have been accepted into the music education program (passed the MTEC Exam) and are enrolled in 400-level music education methods courses. The session speakers will be Drs. Lisa Billingham and Brian Wuttke.
